Selkirk Mountains Hikes
We’ve not been able
to visit and properly research day hikes in the Selkirk
Mountains. However, we’ve identified the ten day hikes
mapped below as promising candidates for less-traveled
treks. Complete hike descriptions for most of these hikes
can be found in Day Hiking Eastern
Washington,
a guidebook by
Rich Landers and Craig Romero that we highly recommend.

NOTE:
The Selkirk
Mountains are one of the few regions of the Inland
Northwest that currently supports grizzly bears. Before
visiting, day hikers should inform themselves about
grizzly bear behavior, take precautionary measures (such
as bear spray canisters), and check with local public
land agencies before hiking. The book,
Backcountry Bear Basics: The Definitive Guide
to Avoiding Unpleasant
Encounters, offers a good
introduction.
